SPECIAL NYU VIRTUAL PATIENT SEMINAR: The Office of the Senior Vice Provost for Research is pleased to announce a special seminar on the theme of the "Virtual Patient". All interested faculty and staff are welcome. Unlike previous VP seminars, this seminar is being jointly co-sponsored with the Medical Education and Technology group at the NYU School of Medicine. The speaker will be James Gordon, MD, of the Harvard Medical School. Dr. Gordon will be speaking on "Advanced Technologies in Medical Education: The Case for Patient Simulation." This talk is of particular relevance to the NYU Virtual Patient community, because it will be providing a thorough overview of high fidelity simulation and its application to medical education. The talk will take place on April 20 from 11-1PM at the NYU School of Medicine in Coles 101. Lunch will be included. Directions: go up to Coles 202, then take the stairwell down one flight to Coles 101 (due to construction, the library entrance to Coles 101 is temporarily blocked off). The Virtual Patient (VP) is an initiative, jointly hosted by the Courant Institute and the School of Medicine, that uses simulation and modeling of the patient, and of the interface between doctor and patient, to help bridge the gap between medical research and clinical practice. VP research occupies interesting territory already being explored by physicians, computer scientists, psychologists, biologists, physicists, mathematicians, educators and others. The purpose of the series is to establish common research goals and areas of concentration within the university and to foster collaborations that will advance research into these areas.
