Violet

Ken Perlin, NYU

Violet is an interactive dancer. I implemented her without using any plug-ins, as a Java 1.0 applet. Her behavior engine is loosely related to our Improv virtual actor software (which we used to make Sid and The Penguins at the SIGGRAPH98 Electronic Theatre). All the 3D rendering is faked by the Java applet, with java.awt.graphics circles and polygons. If you click on her while she's dancing, you will be able to see how the rendering is done.

In the demo accessible below she's just transitioning between a few moves, but if she's accepted at the SIGGRAPH99 Web 3D Roundup in Los Angeles, she'll be doing a complete interactive dance performance.

This demo should be run on a fast Pentium.
